Don't Ask Me To Do More!

Today I was reading a great book by John Mason and one of his nuggets was to just do more. I wanted to turn the page and just skip it because the last thing I needed was to be feeling guilty that I am not doing enough when I believe I’m already doing too much. But it was short so I did read the first line and suddenly agreed that this was for me. The first line is “Do more than exist, live”. The whole concept of the lesson is not to do more things, but to really do the things I am doing the way they should be done. For example do more than sing in church this week, worship. Do more than hear, listen to the Word Of God and believe. Do more than simply help, serve. Try doing more than wishing, try believing and see the huge difference that this small difference makes. Try doing more than just thinking and dreaming by planning and doing.
The list could easily go on and on into every activity under the sun. The point is that we get out of life what we put into it. Most people live out a lack luster existence because they are lack luster about the things they do in life. God knows this to be true and that is why He challenged us in Colossians 3:23 “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men.”. Whatever you do, do it with a passion that reflects the reality of a life set free and empowered by God. Perhaps from time to time we all need to be reminded that God has reconciled our past, and empowered our present, to effect a better future. For we have not received a spirit of timidity but of power, of love and self discipline. (2 Timothy 1:7)
So make no mistake, I have plenty to do and I am not interested in trying to do more. But I certainly can do more with what I am already doing.
