Someday is not a day of the week!

I have a huge blueberry patch on my property that has been there since the 1960's. It had grown up with several small trees and the blueberries themselves were nearly ten feet tall and difficult to manage. It was time for some clearing and pruning so I jumped on it only to discover that my huge patch of blueberries was even bigger than I thought. Three days later I finally looked up to find that the end was finally in sight. I could only imagine the berries that would await all my efforts, as the best berries are always on the new growth. For your information and to save you the same experience that I had you need to trim back a few bushes every year and not put off until next year what needs to be done today. You see the best fertilizer for making your difficulties grow is procrastination. Not only was my task much harder than it needed to be, but blueberries don’t produce the first year after pruning. So I got exactly nothing from my huge blueberry patch this year. Some things would be really good to know before you dive right in.
One of those things that is really good to know about life in general is that you should never put off until tomorrow what needs to be done today. Why? Because what you put off until tomorrow you will probably put off tomorrow. Successful people are simply the people who do today what the rest of the world puts off until tomorrow. Gracian once said “The wise man does at once what the fool puts off till tomorrow”. “Someday” is not a real day on anyone's calendar, so stop making plans for someday. Trust me when I tell you that if you won’t start, your troubles will never stop. Have you ever noticed how procrastinators never face small problems, because they wait around until they get big. If we wait too long to get started the future will be gone before we get there.
For all those who are waiting around for their ship to come in, let me share with you a simple truth. When it arrives don’t be surprised if the name of your ship is hardship. I know that the hardest work I do is the work that I should have done yesterday. The Bible has much to say about taking advantage of the day we have, as we never know about tomorrow.(James 4:13-16) In the second letter to the Thessalonians God commands us to not be idle. In 2 Thess. 3:6 God says “In the name of the Lord Jesus we command you brothers to keep away from every brother who is idle and does not live according to the teaching you received from us.”. God says in James 3:17 that sin is not always doing what we know to be wrong. But it is also not doing what we know is right, when we have the chance. For sure it is a sin to tell lies, but it is also sin to know the truth and not tell it. So take advantage of the day while it is today and tomorrow will take care of itself.
